Source and Sell Private Label Products on Amazon

If you are planning to start your own e-commerce business, then to make some serious money, marketing private label products on Amazon is the best option for you. You can also take advantage of the fulfilment programs provided by Amazon such as Fulfilled-by-Amazon (FBA) Program and Merchant Fulfillment Network (MFN) to improve sales conversion. Here’s all you need to know about sourcing and selling private-label products on Amazon. Product Research For Private Label Products The first step would be to brainstorm product ideas and you can get product ideas from just about anywhere. For example, you can visit physical stores and see what’s hot & trending or you can ask regular customers which products make the most sale. You can also get product ideas from Amazon so always pay attention to the “New Releases” section and Amazon Best Sellers page. Keep looking for new products under different sub-categories. Social media is a great place where you can get new product ideas but you will have to do your own research to check what is trending by analyzing viral posts. Find the Target Market For Private Label Products You can sell anything on Amazon, even if there is little to no demand for that product. You can’t sell something that has too many competitors. You can easily come up with a great product idea but you also have to study the market and find out the best product for your audience. If you are a new Amazon seller then it might be your first product or you want to add a new product to your business. Our Amazon Product researchers have observed that many Amazon sellers waste their money on finding out what the best product to sell is. While searching for your winning product, you need to take care of pricing, shipping, availability for sourcing, product demand, seasonality, and competition. Find the Right Product Suppliers Now that you have an awesome product idea that you want to sell, you have to research product suppliers and manufacturers. For the perfect Private Label products, you have to research marketplaces like Alibaba, and IndiaMart which give you great product ideas. You can sort your results by minimum order requirements, materials, and price. You also get an idea about costs and other charges through this process. If you still can’t get the best supplier and manufacturer for your desired products, then Google is always there for you. Use the product name first as your search term and then mention the private label supplier at the end. Finalizing Logo Design and Packaging Once you get a few good suppliers, don’t order the products immediately. Request for a quote and samples first. You have to compare price quotes of multiple suppliers and also make sure that the products are up to your standards. There will be charges you incur such as shipping costs, import duties, and any other fees. Once you source the product, branding, design, and packaging come next. You can put your logo on the packaging and the product itself. Since it is a private label product, you have to make sure you design the product differently and not like the products already in the marketplace. When it comes to design, there are a lot of things to cover. For example, it might be a sample design with just a label or logo. Depending on the products, you might also have to do a full-scale package design that includes instruction booklets, an ingredients list, and other elements. Make sure the branding is done professionally as it plays a major role in your marketing and sales. At BIE, we have many services that enhance the brand and we have professional graphic designers on our team who guide you through the design process. Figure Out Your Fulfillment Strategy For an Amazon seller, product ratings matter a lot, and your shipping and fulfilment process has a direct impact, on your ratings and reviews. There are so many options available by which you can fulfil an order. But before making any decision, make sure you consider the costs of everything. There will be many costs such as shipping, picking, packing, warehousing, and logistics. You can fulfil your order in-house, that is on your own, or you can ship your private label products to Amazon’s warehouse, and the order will be fulfilled by Amazon. Nowadays, many Amazon sellers choose the Fulfilled-by-Amazon (FBA) program to fulfil their orders. It’s easy to get more sales using FBA and customer service is provided by Amazon. You can use third-party fulfilment centres or ask your private label product supplier if they offer fulfilment services. Basically, drop shipping. Whatever strategy you choose, keep in mind, ratings, and also make sure your supply chain works systematically. Amazon Product Listings Your next step is to ensure your product gets listed on your seller account on Amazon. Make sure you use high-quality and professional product images only. At BIE, we have an e-commerce product photography service where we offer you professional product images. The title is the most important element of your Amazon product listing. Make sure you use the brand name first in your title as it is a private-label product. After the brand name, make sure you use the keywords and search terms that the users could search. Your product title will define what you’re selling so make it as effective as possible. Once the title is done, including all the benefits and features of the product in the bullet points, is crucial. Here you can put some keywords that you want to target. Lastly, make sure you put all the information about the product in the description. The product description is the place where you can instruct the buyer and help them to make a purchase decision. The product description is your sales copy that will decide whether the product will sell or not. Sell Your Products and Start Advertising Once the listing is done, you can add more products and start selling. You

Identify Restricted Keywords in Amazon To Optimize Product Listing

When your product listing gets taken down without any warning, it means you have used restricted keywords in the Amazon product listing. This happens when Amazon does a random sweep when indexing your listings. This is frustrating because you have probably been selling this product for months, and all of a sudden, Amazon has imposed a ban on your product listing. If you are trying to get help from Amazon, the bad news is that they won’t help you out with this. For an Amazon seller, it’s difficult to identify restricted keywords and there is no list of Amazon’s restricted keywords. What Are Forbidden Keywords on Amazon? There is no list available that a seller can refer to for the restricted keywords as Amazon hasn’t published any list as of yet. But sellers can educate themselves by looking into Amazon’s list of restricted products. There are some items that the list includes which are strictly prohibited by Amazon such as drugs and drug paraphernalia. There are items which are not that obvious, such as cosmetics, skin, and hair care. Here is a detail that we should look into. Cosmetics are sold on Amazon all the time but still, it is a restricted keyword, Why is that? Amazon restricts the sale of cosmetics, to those who are new, and not selling under their own brand or selling with the manufacturer’s packaging. Also, Amazon allows it if there is no illegal drug or paraphernalia associated with the seller. Here’s something you should know First, let me share with you four basic rules that you need to follow to maintain Amazon’s guidelines. The maximum number of characters including spaces is 200, which the titles must have. Promotional phrases such as “free shipping”, and “100% quality guaranteed” must be excluded from the titles. Titles must not contain special characters, such as ~ ! * $? _ ~ { } # < > | * ; ^ ¬ ¦ Product-identifying information such as “hiking boots” or “umbrella” must be excluded from titles. If you search Google for what makes a good title, you will get more than 346 million results within 0.62 seconds. The problem is that there are a few differing opinions on Amazon listing optimization. Even new technology companies protect their strategies for listing optimization. For example, let’s look into the two different Amazon product listings from the brand company HP (Hewlett Packard). In the first listing, the title takes a little more of a minimalist approach. The brand hasn’t given that much information in its product title. After they publish a new listing on the same page, the title now has more, based on what Amazon is looking for in terms of an extensive description, so that ranking is high. Update Title on Seller Central There is a common problem faced by many sellers. When they update their titles in Seller Central, it shows up in the back end but the new version of the title doesn’t appear on the actual product page. If you haven’t received any error message, you would not know there is a problem, and even if you did, you would not know how to fix it. In fact, there are moments when you need to contact seller central support and have the title changed. But as an Amazon seller, it is important to identify if the actual issue is the presence of forbidden keywords. And this is where the question comes in. How are you going to find the forbidden keywords in your title? Here are the simple steps you have to follow to identify the keywords forbidden by Amazon: Go to Seller Central and open that product listing. Click on Product Page Issue, and from there, select FIX PRODUCT PAGE ISSUE Enter your ASIN and hit the search button. In this window, you will see why Amazon won’t accept your title. This is a great opportunity for you to make the necessary changes and update your title. If you want to succeed in your Amazon selling business, you have to understand that this is a moving target. Amazon sellers are continuously improving themselves with the fluctuations of Amazon’s wishes as well as the changes in the marketplace.

How to Process Purchase Order (PO) in Vendor Central

A purchase order is an official document that a buyer offers a seller in which the buyer commits to pay a nominal fee for specific products that need to be delivered. On Amazon vendor central, a purchase order is identified using a unique number that pertains to the number of items, SKU, and other product details. On vendor central, PO or purchase orders are sent from Amazon to a vendor, usually when there is a peak in demand for a particular product. Orders: Here, vendors provide information regarding the shipment and have to click on the “receive purchases orders” tab on vendor central. Items: Here, vendors need the product information on the product and can upload images, edit pricing, and other such details. Merchandising: Here, vendors can access features like Amazon Vine and A+ Premium content. Vendors can also market their product listings. Payment: Here, vendors need to keep track of invoices and remittances. Processing the Purchase Order Form An Amazon vendor can either be a manufacturer or a supplier who delivers products to Amazon directly. Amazon vendors can also be third-party merchants wherein they can deliver products to Amazon’s warehouses on behalf of the supplier. Amazon vendors won’t receive purchase orders immediately after setting up a product especially since the ordering process is automated by Amazon. Before deciding whether to order a product or not, Amazon’s system will look at the sales history as well as the current market demand for that specific product. If the sales performance is low, PO will be minimum and once this increases or becomes a high-demand product, the purchase orders will grow larger subsequently. Sometimes there might be a situation where a vendor may not possess enough stock to fulfil a purchase order so in such a case there are two options: either you can cancel the PO or you can place it on backorder till your product supply is fulfilled. In order to make sure you don’t receive a heavy PO, while you have limited or no stock, always remember to mark those items temporarily or permanently unavailable. As a vendor, you cannot issue too many backorders since there’s a certain percentage set by Amazon, and in case you do this, you’ll be issued a chargeback for the non-delivery of items. Amazon vendor central relies heavily on EDI for its purchase order, advance shipping notice (ASN), and other shipping & packaging data for appropriate data filing. Is It Important? EDI (electronic data interchange) is a technical exchange of data between the vendor and Amazon that is electronically transfigured, and it relates to processing the purchase orders and invoices one receives on vendor central. EDI documents consist of the following documents: Purchase Order, PO Confirmation Receipt, Advance Ship Notice, Invoice and 128 Label. You can either hire Amazon Human resources to manage your purchase orders on vendor central, or you can integrate EDI using reliable network services. Whether you’re a first/ second or third-party seller, it is important to streamline certain processes for quick shipment & delivery to Amazon fulfilment centres. Your business should include the ability to transmit or receive necessary EDI-compliant documents from Amazon vendor central. Amazon Chargebacks for Vendor Central For Vendor central customers, Amazon places chargebacks on items that have not been processed properly, once the POD is generated. It is important you understand how chargeback works, to avoid loss of time and money, especially once the PO is received. Each Amazon chargeback is unique and there are two categories for this: Shipping and Packaging Issue of Purchase Order Purchase order issue is one of the most common Amazon chargebacks, which involves the failure to confirm PO forms in time, shipping extra/ lesser units, or violating Amazon guidelines by delaying the shipment. Issue of Receiving If the designated shipments that arrive at Amazon’s fulfilment centres violate certain guidelines, such as missing labels or barcode issues, it is an issue of receiving the shipment, and a chargeback is issued. Issue of Packaging If the items are not properly packaged, especially items that are delicate, or are made of glass or any other breakable material, then this calls for Amazon chargeback. Issue of Advanced Ship Notice (ASN) Vendors are supposed to send the ASN correctly from Vendor Central or through EDI while shipping items to Amazon’s fulfilment centre. If there is any error with the ASN, it can incur an Amazon chargeback. Issue of Transportation If there is any failure in setting up routing requests for the products, or any specified shipping and delivery fee policies occur, then it can also result in an Amazon chargeback, especially if the vendor hasn’t paid additional fees for the delivery. PO Processing On vendor central, the process of making the PO and generating an order confirmation slip from/ as a supplier is a necessary step once you receive the PO from Amazon on your account. In order to do this, you need to do the following: 1. On your Vendor Central account, find the “Order” tab and select 2. Next, click on the “Purchase Order” tab and wait for the PO to open 3. Click on “Confirm New PO” and extract this file onto a Microsoft excel sheet 4. To confirm new PO: Go to Orders > Purchase Orders, in the Action items section, select “Confirm New Po”. 5. Select the check box in the left column for each purchase order you want to confirm and open the selected PO. 6. Before you confirm your purchase orders, you can make changes to the availability in the fields table. 7. Once confirmed and downloaded, click “Submit”. Availability Acknowledgement Code on Amazon The availability acknowledgement code you select impacts Amazon’s buying decision. In some cases, if you are unable to process certain items due to stock unavailability, Amazon will add this to the next PO, and reorder again. Orders will be suspended for 30 days unless you don’t change the status or until you restock. Selecting the “Permanently Unavailable” status indicates that you will not

Amazon Ads – Why They Are Indispensable?

Amazon is a perfect place for any seller to start selling products to interested buyers and foster a successful business. There is literally a world of sellers out there with over 500 million products on Amazon.com alone, resulting in cutthroat competition. For newly launched products and lesser-known brands that are riding low on popularity, it is even more difficult to gather traction and visibility. If your product doesn’t appear on the first few pages of the search results, it is less likely to be discovered by buyers. This is where Amazon ads come into the picture and they are here to stay. Amazon Ads Amazon Ads are God sent for sellers to help their products appear on the first few pages. Sellers can run campaigns and bid on keywords relevant to their product with the aim of appearing on the first page. The catch here is identifying and bidding on the right keywords that convert. There are two types of ads. Headline search ads and sponsored product ads that are based on bidding keywords. Headline Search Ads Headline search ads (otherwise known as banner-style ads) can display three products and also have a short copy and a graphic image along with the ad. The brand can alter this graphic according to their will so as to make it more attractive to a customer. These ads are generally linked to the brand store page where the customer can view the entire collection of a particular brand. Headline search ads have the advantage of utilizing prime real estate. They appear at the topmost section of the search results page but can also appear at the middle or bottom depending on the device with which the customer is viewing. Sponsored Products Ads Sponsored products are ads that link to a single product. They are placed immediately after a headline search ad or can also be present at the top if there is no headline search ad. They are spread throughout the search results and an average Amazon customer won’t be able to make out that it is an ad as it is often mixed up with the organic results. Unlike headline search ads, sponsored product ads don’t have any provision to add a copy or graphic. Benefits of Amazon Ads Ads dominate the search results page. As a brand, it is wise if you bid on high-converting keywords and win this space. Increased Traffic: The first benefit of Amazon ads is that it drives traffic to your listing. It goes without saying that the listing should be optimized with the right titles, catchy images, and informative bullet points to convert the impressions into clicks and sales. Most customers browse only the first page of the product listing and if your item is there at the top, you have hit jackpot. Increased Brand Awareness: A successful ad campaign makes people aware of your products and helps in building a positive image. High impressions and low clicks are often considered to be an unsuccessful campaign but it is not always the case. You may be selling a niche product which is new to the market and one of its kind which people are not aware of and unsure of to try. The campaigns though will help in generating impressions and it helps in getting that much-needed initial exposure. Increased Sales: This is the ultimate aim of running any ads. A successful campaign translates into more clicks, increased traffic, and more sales. It is also possible that the brand in general sees increased sales even for the items that are not advertised. However, it is important to have an optimized product detail page to reap the best out of the ads. Improved Sales Rank: Every product on Amazon has a sales rank based on how well the product is performing in terms of sales volume, feedback, and reviews. Increased sales will eventually help the product climb up the rankings and result in increased organic visibility as well. Ads Are For Everyone Now if you think Ads are only for newbies, you are totally wrong. Amazon is highly competitive and the competition is only getting more aggressive with every passing day. Even big brands are not ready to lose out on the prime real estate. Everyone wants to appear on top. The one who bids high and bids smart is the winner. If you are able to crack a successful ad campaign on Amazon, you have landed on a goldmine. Let BIE with our best marketing tools and Amazon experts run a winning campaign for you. Understanding Amazon Sponsored Brands (Headline Search Ads) – And The Best Ways To Use Them

The topmost portion of the Amazon search results page is prime real estate and Sponsored Brands (Previously known as Headline Search Ads), as the name suggests, are a smart way to feature your brand on top of the SERP to drive more traffic and sales. Amazon Marketing Services offers Sponsored Brands for all 1P and 3P sellers with Brand registry and are quite different from sponsored ads as they are focused on promoting products right on top of search results. Let us see what they are and how they can be put to the best use to increase traffic and brand awareness of your products. How do they work? Sponsored Brands (Or HSA) can be the most beneficial tool for driving sales if you understand how it works. • These are keyword-targeted banner ads. • Ads appear on top of the search engine results page. • Each banner ad can feature up to three ASINs. • Sellers can customize their headline and a customized landing page can also be linked to it. Choose the Right Keywords As stated earlier, Sponsored Brands are keyword-targeted ads and their success lies solely on targeting the right keywords. As an advertiser, you need to select keywords relevant to your product and then bid on those competing with other Amazon sellers in order to display your ad. These keywords can either be a single word, such as “Denim”, or multiple words like “Men’s Denim Jacket”. Research on Traffic Volume When you enter keywords for your campaign, AMS will give you a list of suggested keywords which pop up automatically with a search volume indicator. Based on the amount of traffic that the keyword gets and the relevance of the ASINS in your advertising campaign, the indicator will show high, medium, or low, for you to choose the right one. Choose the Keywords that fit your budget Sponsored Brands are ads that work on an auction-based pricing model and when you win the auction, your ads will be displayed. That means, if you want to win the high-traffic keywords, you must bid competitively. Too low a bid, chances are other sellers’ ads will appear. In that case, you must increase your bid to win more impressions. Keep in mind that you do not need very high traffic to make a high conversion. The right keywords to target the right shoppers for your products will do. Use Reporting Tools Amazon Marketing Services keeps track of your ad campaign and shows you metrics on how many clicks you have got, the money spent, and the conversion made. Here are a few metrics to watch out for: • Average Cost of Sales (ACOS) – Total cost spent on the campaign divided by the number of sales. • Detail Page Views (DPV) – The number of shoppers who clicked your custom landing page and reached your product’s detail page. These metrics give you an insight into how well your ads are performing and help you make the right decision. Try, Test And Repeat Sponsored Brands Ads give you the flexibility to customize the ad creative. It would be smart if you invest time and resources in testing the custom ad headline and the banner image. You can also play around with the order, number, and combination of ASINs that you would like to feature in the ad. Here are some best practices to follow: • Set up multiple campaigns with different keywords simultaneously. • Run the test campaign for a minimum of 2 weeks. • Try changing one variable at a time and rerun the campaign for another 2 weeks. • Figure out what is working and not working based on the metrics and test set-up. Considering the fact that it gets a prominent place in the Search Engine Results Page and the money that needs to be invested in doing so, it would be wise to get professional help for choosing the right keywords and setting up the banner. Get in touch with us if you would like to hire professionals from Big Internet Ecommerce to do a winning campaign for you.
