Stripe and private equity firm Advent International reportedly offered to acquire PayPal for $60. PayPal rejected the proposal as too low, but negotiations over a higher takeover price remain underway, according to The Wall Street Journal. Under the proposed transaction, Stripe and Advent International would reportedly take equal stakes in the combined company. Reuters reported that the buyers do not intend to break up PayPal following an acquisition. Bloomberg previously reported that at least one major PayPal competitor was evaluating a takeover of the entire company, while other prospective buyers were examining individual assets.
