Amazon Ads in 2026: Auto-Optimization, Ads Data Manager, Sponsored Prompts and the New Ads Agent

Amazon Ads changed more in one week than it often does in a quarter. At Amazon Accelerate 2026 (September 22 to 24), Amazon announced AI campaign insights, auto-optimization and a wider Ads Data Manager for sponsored ads. On September 29, at its ads conference unBoxed, it merged its ads console and Amazon DSP into one platform called Amazon Ads Agent.

This guide separates what is live now from what arrives in October 2026 and January 2027, explains what Amazon's numbers really mean, and shows how to use each update to reach more buyers without giving an algorithm unchecked control of your Amazon PPC budget.

Amazon Ads basics in 60 seconds

Amazon's sponsored ads are pay-per-click: you pay only when a shopper clicks, and there is no minimum spend.. Sponsored Products promote single listings. Sponsored Brands promote your brand, several products or a video. Amazon DSP buys display, video and audio ads on and off Amazon. Three numbers matter most:

●       ACOS: ad spend divided by ad sales.

●       ROAS: ad sales per dollar spent.

●       TACoS: total ad spend divided by all sales, including organic. It shows whether ads grow the whole business.

Amazon Ads updates at a glance

Here is where each update stands, and the result Amazon has reported for it, based on Amazon Ads' September 22, 2026 announcement and its Amazon Ads Agent page.

●       Campaign intelligence dashboard. Explains how your campaigns are performing and recommends targeting, bid and budget actions. It reaches all US sponsored ads advertisers in October 2026. Amazon has not stated a result for it.

●       Auto-optimization. Adds and pauses keywords, expands product targeting and spots seasonal demand. It arrives in the US in January 2027. In beta, the first sale came 40% faster and sales rose 13%.

●       Ads Data Manager for sponsored ads. Lets any advertiser use first-party data such as emails and site activity. It is available now, globally. Amazon says advertisers using first-party data see 30% higher ROAS.

●       Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands prompts. AI-written conversational ads inside Alexa for Shopping, live in the US since March 25, 2026. Amazon says shoppers who click a prompt convert 48% more often and spend 21% more.

●       Amazon Ads Agent. One AI-powered platform for sponsored ads, DSP and full-funnel campaigns. Amazon announced it on September 29, 2026, and features are phasing in. See the unBoxed section below.

How to read Amazon's numbers

●       40% faster first sale measures speed to the first sale, not profit. Amazon's Ads Agent page attributes it to internal US data from July to September 2026.

●       30% higher ROAS compares advertisers who use first-party data with those who do not, so it does not prove that uploading data causes the lift.

●       48% and 21% compare shoppers who click a prompt with those who do not, which is not incremental lift. A separate campaign-level figure, a 6% conversion increase for Sponsored Brands prompts, was shown at Accelerate and reported second-hand.

1. AI campaign intelligence dashboard

What it does. A new dashboard on your campaign overview page analyzes targeting, bidding and budget, explains how each campaign is performing and what is driving results, and recommends changes. Each action comes with a visual of its likely impact, and you can apply, edit or skip it.

Examples from Amazon. It may flag that a top keyword is losing impression share and suggest a bid increase to win it back, or suggest targeting shoppers who browsed but did not buy.

How to use it. From October, open the dashboard weekly. Before applying a recommendation, check the cause: a falling click-through rate can be a bid issue, a stock issue or a weak main image.

Benefit. You get a ranked to-do list for your ads and save the hours spent digging through reports.

2. Auto-optimization: campaigns that adjust themselves

What it does. Inside your existing campaign settings, auto-optimization expands product targeting to similar or complementary products and categories, adds relevant keywords, pauses weak ones and spots seasonal opportunities. In Amazon's example, a planter brand had not added the search term "terracotta plant pot with saucer" at the start of summer, and the tool added it when searches spiked.

How to use it (from January 2027 in the US).

  1. Turn it on with one click in campaign settings.
  2. Review each action with its spend and conversions.
  3. Edit or reverse any action at any time.

Best use cases. New product launches (faster first sale), seasonal shifts, and finding long-tail keywords you would never think to add.

How to test it fairly. Run it on one campaign beside an identical campaign without it. Set a maximum bid and daily budget first. Judge the result on TACoS and profit after four weeks, not on how fast the first sale arrived.

Benefit. Basic keyword harvesting and pausing, which fill many PPC retainers, are being automated. Your time shifts to strategy, listing quality and margin.

3. Ads Data Manager: use your own customer data

What it does. Ads Data Manager lets you bring first-party data, such as email lists, past buyers and website activity, into Amazon Ads and combine it with Amazon's shopping, browsing and streaming signals. Amazon has extended it to advertisers of all sizes and all campaign types, including sponsored ads, at no extra budget. Data use is privacy-safe and only for your own campaigns. According to Amazon's launch page, you upload once and reuse the data across ad products, through the console, the API or partner data platforms, with end-to-end encryption and access controls.

How to use it.

  1. List your first-party data: email subscribers, DTC buyers, loyalty members.
  2. Confirm your privacy policy covers this use and that you have consent.
  3. Upload once, then reuse across campaigns.
  4. Build audiences for past buyers (repeat purchase) and for similar shoppers (new customers).

Best use cases. Brands that also sell on their own website, subscription and consumable products, and launches where an existing email list can send early buyers.

Benefit. Your ads reach people already close to buying. Amazon reports 30% higher ROAS for advertisers using first-party data, so test it against a control before you scale.

4. Sponsored Prompts and ads in Alexa for Shopping

Shoppers now describe a need to an AI assistant instead of typing a product name. Amazon merged Rufus with Alexa+ into Alexa for Shopping in the US on May 13, 2026, according to several industry analyses. At Accelerate, Amazon said 350 million customers used it in the past 12 months and that users spend about 40% more per order (as presented). Existing sponsored ads campaigns are automatically eligible to appear in it with no extra setup.

What prompts are. Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands prompts are AI-written conversational ad extensions that open a product conversation when clicked. Since general availability in the US on March 25, 2026, eligible campaigns are enrolled automatically, clicks are billed at your existing CPC, and there is no separate bid. Amazon writes the question and answer from your detail page, reviews and campaign data.

How to check and control them.

  1. Go to Reports, Create report, Sponsored Products, then choose Prompts.
  2. Compare prompt spend and conversion with the parent campaign.
  3. Pause prompts on low-margin or low-stock products.

How to win more clicks and sales. The AI can only say what your listing says. State who the product is for, the main benefit, materials, size and use cases. Amazon's 75-character title limit and new 125-character Item Highlights field, effective July 27, make bullets, Item Highlights and A+ content carry the detail. Add answers to common questions and keep reviews healthy, because reviews feed the AI's recommendations. Amazon has not published its exact ranking logic, so treat these as good practice, not guarantees.

5. Amazon unBoxed (September 29): Amazon Ads Agent

unBoxed is Amazon Ads' own conference, held a week after Accelerate. Amazon merged sponsored ads and Amazon DSP into one platform, Amazon Ads Agent, with three campaign types: Sponsored Ads, Full Funnel Campaigns and Display, Video and Audio. Amazon's ad business earned $19.8 billion in the second quarter of 2026, up 26%.

Here is what Amazon announced at unBoxed and where each item stands, as reported on September 29.

●       Full Funnel Campaigns. You set one budget and add your products, and Amazon's AI handles targeting, creative and pacing across sponsored ads and display, video and audio. It is in US open beta.

●       Branded Conversations. Turns a Sponsored Brands Collections ad into a multi-turn chat in Alexa for Shopping, and you pay only for the first prompt click. Expected in the US in January 2027.

●       Review Requests. Asks verified buyers for reviews, and you pay only when a shopper clicks to submit one. Weekly reviews tripled in closed beta. It is in US open beta through October, for ASINs with under 1,000 reviews.

●       Media planning and natural-language analytics. Builds a media plan and answers performance questions in plain English. It is in US beta, with access expanding over the coming months.

●       Light MCP and AMC SQL Generator. Tools for technology partners: faster AI agents and plain-language Amazon Marketing Cloud queries. Amazon says the SQL generator will be priced at cost when it reaches general availability in 2027.

Best use cases. Review Requests suit new products that need social proof. Full Funnel Campaigns suit smaller brands that want one simple budget, though you give up segment-level control.

Five ways to update your Amazon PPC strategy

  1. Plan for audiences and conversations, not only keywords.
  2. Set guardrails instead of doing every task by hand: maximum bids, negatives, brand terms and budgets.
  3. Judge ads on TACoS and profit, not only ACOS or ROAS.
  4. Treat your listing as ad copy. Amazon builds prompts from it.
  5. Keep your own measurement. Amazon's tools grade Amazon's own recommendations, so run control campaigns.

Guardrails checklist for automation

●       Set maximum bids and daily budgets on every campaign before turning on automation.

●       Add negative keywords and protect brand terms.

●       Confirm conversion tracking works, because an AI optimizing toward broken data goes wrong faster than a person would.

●       Review the action log weekly and reverse actions that hurt margin.

●       Pause prompts on low-margin or low-stock ASINs.

Your 30-day Amazon Ads action plan

  1. Week 1: Pull the Prompts report and list your first-party data with consent.
  2. Week 2: As the dashboard reaches US accounts in October, compare its advice with your own before applying it.
  3. Week 3: Pilot a Full Funnel Campaign with a small budget against an existing campaign, if you are in the US beta.
  4. Week 4: Rewrite listings for your top 20 ASINs with use cases and benefits, and lock Q4 budgets.
  5. January 2027: Pilot auto-optimization and judge it on TACoS.

What this means for brands working with an agency

Automation now handles keyword harvesting and basic bid changes. What still needs a person is strategy: confirming why performance changed, protecting margin, connecting ads to listing quality and stock, and proving the result.

BIE Perspective: Amazon Ads Updates 2026

Big Internet Commerce Perspective

Amazon advertising is moving from manual campaign management toward AI-assisted optimization.

New developments like campaign intelligence, auto-optimization, Ads Data Manager, Sponsored Prompts, and Amazon Ads Agent show that sellers will have more automation capabilities available inside Amazon Ads. Accelerate Blogs - 2026

But successful advertising still depends on more than turning on automation.

A campaign can only perform as well as the strategy behind it.

At Big Internet Commerce, we believe Amazon PPC success comes from combining:

  • Accurate keyword and competitor research
  • Strong listing conversion optimization
  • Proper campaign structure
  • Continuous search term analysis
  • Profit-focused ACOS and TACoS management
  • Human review of AI recommendations

Automation can reduce repetitive PPC tasks, but sellers still need experts who understand:

  • Why conversion rates change
  • When increasing bids makes sense
  • When inventory issues impact advertising
  • Whether growth is profitable or only increasing spend

Our Amazon PPC approach focuses on using data, AI tools, and marketplace experience together to build campaigns that support long-term brand growth.

The future of Amazon Ads is not AI versus PPC specialists.

It is AI helping experienced teams make faster and more informed decisions.

‍

Amazon Ads is moving from tools you operate by hand to an agent that works alongside you. The campaign intelligence dashboard, auto-optimization, Ads Data Manager, Sponsored Prompts and Amazon Ads Agent all aim to cut manual work, and several arrive in October 2026 and January 2027, so you have time to prepare.

The sellers who gain the most will not be the ones who switch everything on. They will set maximum bids and budgets first, confirm their conversion tracking, test each feature against a control campaign and judge the results on TACoS and profit, not only on ACOS or speed to the first sale. They will also treat their listings as ad copy, because Amazon builds prompts from them.

Start this month: pull your Prompts report, list the first-party data you can use with consent and rewrite the listings for your top ASINs. Then add each new tool as it reaches your account, one at a time, and keep the ones that grow profit.
